Why DNS matters
DNS is the directory that turns website names into addresses. Most people use whatever their ISP provides by default — it works, but it is often not the best choice. Common DNS options Ian configures
- ISP default — fine as a fallback, but often slower and with no filtering or privacy extras
- Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) — fast, privacy-focused; family options block malware and adult content
- Google Public DNS (8.8.8.8) — reliable and quick, with no content filtering
- Quad9 (9.9.9.9) — blocks known malicious domains; a solid security-first choice
- NextDNS — customisable filtering (ads, malware, tracking) with per-device profiles
What changes when you switch
