Scam awareness

Scams, phishing & online fraud

Phone, email, and text scams are common — especially targeting home users and small businesses. Know the warning signs, check official Australian alerts, and get help quickly if something does not feel right.

Unexpected contact

Be wary of calls, texts, or emails claiming to be from your bank, the ATO, NBN, Microsoft, or Telstra — especially if they pressure you to act immediately.

Remote access requests

Never allow remote access to your PC unless you initiated contact with someone you trust. Scammers use remote sessions to steal banking details and install malware.

Payment red flags

Legitimate organisations do not ask for payment in gift cards, cryptocurrency, or wire transfers. Stop and verify through official contact details you look up yourself.

Phishing emails & texts

Check sender addresses carefully, avoid unexpected links, and do not open attachments from unknown sources — a common way to install malware or steal login details.

Ian answers when he can and you talk it through together — right then and there. No call centre, no queue.

  2. If he cannot chat — or at all

When Ian is with another client or driving, he will kindly take your name and number and call you back as soon as possible. If you cannot get through, send a text with your name and what you need.

“From time to time technology moves ahead of the capabilities of my computer and I have needed Computer Life's assistance to recommend solutions. On each occasion I have found Ian to be very thorough in working through my problems and yet maintaining a very high speed of activity. At all times I have had confidence that no other technician could do better.”

“I am a Bookkeeper and my computer is an essential tool of my business. After a short interview Ian understood my business and personal requirements for a laptop, and knew I needed reliable hardware for best performance of my business programs. What impressed me is that he did not try to upsell me to something I did not need, and assured me the product chosen would deliver on my computing tasks. I would not hesitate to recommend Computer Life.”
